When an unknown worker from Manhattan-based agency Horizon Media used yellow sticky notes to spell out the word “Hi” on their office window, they couldn’t have known what they were starting.
But we’re glad they did it, because the results have been utterly spectacular.
After seeing the innocuous message from across the road, Havas Media Print Director Katy McCarty decided to reply with a simple question: “Sup?” It didn’t take long for the idea of communicating via sticky notes on windows to spread through both buildings like wildfire.
“I wrote ‘Sup’. Then, people started posting messages back and it just exploded,” says Katy.
Eventually, the sticky note messages grew beyond simple word-based communications and exploded into full-blown creative chaos! Among the sticky note contributions were detailed illustrations, sometimes taking people entire lunch breaks to create.
When you combine friendly competition, creative minds and a simple-but-fun idea, amazing things happen. Creative energy is undeniably infectious, and that’s part of what we love about working in media!
